The role of the Safety Coordinator (ΠΔ 305/96) is particularly important as it is defined by the project contractor or the project owner.
His duties include indicatively:
- The coordination of contractors, subcontractors so that the employees consistently comply with the measures referred to the Plan and Project of Health and Safety.
- Organizes with the Occupational Doctors and Safety Engineers of the contractors and subcontractors their activities for the prevention of accidents.
- Observes safety and health issues as recorded in the safety measures calendar as well as the observance of the Health and Safety Regulations.
The Plan and Project of Health and Safety are also foreseen by the P.D. 305/96.
The plan is the most important tool of the Safety coordinator because it integrates prevention in all phases of the project study and at the same time coordinates and guides the work with all those involved during the execution of the project.
The Project aims to identify, prevent and limit the risks of all those involved in the project. It also includes:
Notes on safety and health issues, instructions for repairs and maintenance of machinery, buildings, conversions, cleanings, project register, etc. The Plan is completed together with the project.
PRO.EX. has calibrated portable equipment and follows methods in accordance with international standards and Greek legislation, for the measurement of waste gas emissions from fixed sources (total gaseous organic carbon, volatile organic compounds, dust, water vapor, metals, control of automated dust measurement systems), the quality indoor air and workplace air quality for worker safety and health (volatile organic compounds, metals, suspended particles, asbestos, noise exposure), air quality measurement (PM10), environmental noise measurement as well as soil sampling and waste.
In last few years, it has implemented more than 300 projects.
Safety and health signs play an important role in achieving this goal, since with their proper use they attract the attention of workers thus warning them of existing dangers or reminding them of specific instructions.
With appropriate signage, occupational accidents and occupational diseases can be drastically reduced, with all the favorable consequences this will have not only for the employees, but also for the smooth operation and productivity of the business.
